PHSSChoir Talent Show

Thank you for your active participation today, including Mdm Rositah. All of you gave your best shot. You overcame your fear of holding a microphone, singing in front of an audience. I think that over the last three days, you all have become more confident singers. Please keep it up.

Learning from Band

I showed you all the video I took during band practice yesterday. I could see your effort in maintaining the discipline before the break, but things sort of returned to normal after the break.

I'm writing this with a heavy heart because I had to do something very unpleasant today. I don't enjoy it. On my way home, I kept asking if I've done the correct thing. Sigh!..... I hope not to have to do any more of this.

Reporting

Today's reporting was bad. Some walked in as late as 9.10am. Please improve.

Team Bonding

I hope that everyone enjoyed the game "Animal Farm". Other than enjoying the game, there are many lessons that can be learnt from this game.

Learning from other's mistakes and success - As you watch other groups play, you would have started designing your own strategies.
Unity is strength - once you have found your own kind (animal), you start to make louder noise to attract more of your own kind. Please do take note that this can either be positive or negative. On a positive note, if you are in the company of others who are good... you are likely to attract more good people to you. The reverse can also be true. Where choir is concerned. If the section sings as one voice, those who are not so sure will find it easier to follow.
Stop and take stock every now and then - remember the group that "blindly" (literally) went around with all their members formed up looking for more members simply because they did not stop to count the number of members they already have. And when they eventually stopped to count, there were more than one person counting and they counted one short and continued to walk around. It is necessary to stop and reflect on what has been done and consider how the situation one can get out of a bad situation or make a good situation better. Every choir member needs to stop and reflect every now and then on the practice sessions.
Last but not least... what this whole game is all about... LISTENING. During the game, everyone is trying to be heard... hoping that one of their kind will find them. At the same time, everyone was also trying hard to listen hard to find one of their own kind. To one animal... the sound that all other animals were making is absolute noise. Isn't it amazing how you could filter all the noise and listen only to the sound which you want to hear? When you sing as a combined choir.... you are singing and at the same time, listening to your other section members. You would also need to filter out all other sounds by the other sections so that you would not be lost. On another note, during the practice session... it is important that you listen to the conductor.

Anyway... thanks to Adeline and her team of Lunch personnel.... for making the drinks and clearing up after lunch today.

Combined Practice

The discipline today has improved. But A1 still has a pitching problem. I hope that all section leaders paid attention to the areas where you section tends to make mistakes and work on it tomorrow during sectional.

Reporting

Some members were still late... but I'm pleased that the latest members arrived at about 9.04am. Keep the the improvement. We want to start activities at the time stated.

Getting to Know You...

I'm glad that all of you enjoyed the Blanket Game. Hope that you now know one another better. In life, we don't always live for ourselves. In fact, without the ones we love and others who are important to us, we lose our directions. When you know the people in your group and that your actions will have an impact on him/her, you would strive to make a positive impact and avoid negative impact.

Lunch

Mdm Rositah and I apologise for letting you all go hungry for 1 hr. We will do better at this area. We will make sure that lunch will commence at 12noon on 19th Mar 2009. Hope that all of you enjoyed the lunch provided. Drink are complimentary... yes... once again sponsored by Mdm Rositah and myself.

Combined Practice

I'm encouraged to see that you all are trying hard to remember Mr Chong's lesson in life.... LISTEN. I can see that you are paying more attention now. However, there are still some of you, in your nature, chatting away at any opportunity... Especially.... A***S.

Most of you looked sleepy and tired, but you did your best to keep awake. Blame it on lunch...

You are sounding much better. Much closer to performance standards... Please keep up the good work.

A1/Mezzo Sop.... you have to work harder on the roundness of your voice. You have overcomed the pitching problem, now its time to sound like choral singers... not karaoke singers ok?

S1 is sounding good. Remember the lesson on using the support of your diaphram, especially when you sing the higher notes... otherwise, your notes will tend to drift.

S2 sounds great!

A2 sounds great too.... but chatty and some sleepy.

Lets have a great practice sessions today.

S.Y.F IS COMING!!!!!

I know that some of us are Shy.
I know that some of us have Stage Fright.
I know that it is not easy to Sing High Notes.
But I know, We can give our best in every performance on stage.

If some people say that you can't sing,
don't listen to them!
remember that-
"It Is Not About What Others Say,
It Is About What You Believe."
& we believe that we can show everybody
that our voices will take us far
and lead us to success.

Don't take all the choir practises as play time,
take it as a time where you can show your passion
In Singing.
