Farewell to Tina//Friday, January 30, 2009//11:29 AM

I apologise for not announcing this at the end of yesterday's practice. The email I received on this new states that her last day is 30/2. Upon a second look at the email today, I occured to me that there is a typo error in the message and that it should be 30/1. (Feb doesn't have 30 days). I intended to make the announcement only at a later date.

The choir and I wish Tina all the best upon her return to Korea. I am sad to loose a good singer while many of you would be sad to loose a good friend.

At this point in time, I that all of us can learn from the positive attitude displayed by Tina. Her last day in school is today and she still faithfully came for choir training yesterday. I am sincerely touched by your commitment and I hope that the rest can learn from this.

Finally, Choir would like to say farewell. We can keep in touch through this blog. Hope that you will continue singing back in Korea. Do let us know ok?

Reflection of training on 29th Jan 2009////11:11 AM

Dear Choir Members,

I'm penning down the reflections which I shared with you yesterday evening.

Individual Singers have to do your part

I hope that everyone remembers this. Individually, as a singer, you need to get your pitch right. You have to constantly reflect upon where you normally go wrong and tackle the problem. If you are unable to, please do approach Mr Hu for help. However, there is no substitute for hard work. You need to know your part so well you can sing it while sleeping.

Overall Discipline of Members

Some of you here are still not paying attention during practices. Section Leaders and Presidents have to be on the look out for this. Section leaders should be the first to remind fellow section members to pay attention. Let the choir presidents handle uncooperative members.

I will be requesting Mr Hu to test your singing by having one member per section to sing. Get ready for that. Remember that individually, you need to know and hold your notes.

Start of Friday Practices

Please note that we will start Friday practices from next week onwards from 1.15pm to 4.15pm. I understand that some of you have concern about the amount of time spend for choir practices. You will then have to consider how you can make each and every training session and effective one. Everyone of you can start by doing your homework, learn and sing your part as well as remember the points which Mr Hu has given. (your diction, dynamics, breathing etc) If you are able to do that, you'll hear an improvement for every training session. If that's the case, we will not require extra sessions.

I have made a promise that I'll stop Friday Sessions if I'm satisfied with your performance during Tuesday and Thursday training session. As such, each and everyone of you needs to have moral courage to advice uncooperative members to be more cooperative as their actions results in undesirable consequences for you.

Dear Choir,

Please note that there there will not be any training on the date stated. This is in view of the extra training hours which you all have put in for the CCA Fiesta and the Two Assembly.

Please do you this time to catch up with your studies.

Practice will resume on Thursday 29th January 2009. Practice time and policy remains the same. Upper Secondary students who do not have ACE will report at 3pm.

A good performance today////8:26 PM

Dear Choir Members,

You sang well today. I think that our singing at the grass patch yesterday did some good. I think we should sing outdoor more often. Pretty inspirational isn't it? Singing without the microphone also helped somewhat in my opinion.

I have a few pointers which may be useful to all of you.

Some of you are still not extremely accurate in your pitching. You need to work on that.
Some are still not paying attention to the conductor and thus, not keeping in time.
I think we'll need to do some laughing excercise. The lifting of the cheekbone is still not seen.
Do read the lyrics and understand it. You need to immerse yourself into the song in order to bring out its flavour.
Sop 1 needs to pay attention to the parts of the song where your pitching normally goes out.

But on the whole, I'm very happy with the performance today. Thank you for the hard work. Do rest well during the CNY period and be prepared to put in a lot more hard work for the SYF.

A gentle reminder that we'll be getting you to sing in small groups to access if you know your parts on Thursday 29th Jan 2009.

Performance Next Week during Upper and Lower Sec Assembly//Monday, January 12, 2009//3:44 PM

Please note that we'll sing AVE MARIA next week during upper and lower secondary assembly. I would like to give you'll as much exposure to performing as I can so that you can gain some confidence for SYF. Please work hard on this song this week.

Secondary One Students, Please Join US for Training on Tuesday//Sunday, January 11, 2009//10:13 PM

Secondary ONE students (with or without choir experience) who would like to join choir, please be present on Tuesday (13th Jan 2009) at 3pm, humanities room. We will be revising our SYF songs. If you are able to learn the songs on time, you may be selected to participate in SYF in April this year.

This will give you the opportunity to participate in the SYF at least two times while you are in Secondary School.

If you have any enquiry, please see me or our choir leaders, Teresa (3E2), Grace (3E2) Poh Im (3E1) or Lynette (4N2).

Choir Training starts on this Tuesday 13 Jan 2009////9:53 PM

Dear Choir Members,

Please note that practice starts on 13th Jan 2009. Lower secondary students are to report before 3pm at the humanities room. Uppers secondary students who do not have ACE are to report before 3pm. For those with ACE, please report before 4pm.

Attendance is compulsory. If you are not able to turn up for training, you MUST seek permission personally from me by tomorrow. I will decide on a case by case basis. If you are not feeling well on the day of training, you must provide me with an MC. Parents letters will not be accepted.

We will revise Ave Maria and White Horses. Please listen to the MP3 prior to the practice. You will also be given our second choice piece on Tuesday.
